Frostpunk Game Update 2023, Lots of Updates!

The latest Frostpunk update 2023 is available for download on PS4 and Xbox One. According to the Frostpunk 1.06 patch notes, the latest update addresses Builder Monument crash boxes. 

In addition, the 2023 version of the game also includes various stability fixes. Previously, a major update added all expansions (The Rifts, The Last Autumn, On the Edge) to consoles.

Frostpunk Gameplay

In gameplay Frostpunk mixes bits from various familiar strategy games into something like an upside-down Tropico.

You will make decisions for all of humanity left in the middle of a frozen desert. Hope and dissatisfaction serve as metrics to show how things are going.

As the leader of this last city, the most basic task you have is to direct the workforce to gather supplies to keep the community going. 

This aspect plays out like most real-time city-building or survival games, and your workers will trudge through the snow to bring coal, steel, and wood back to the city center. 

The game limits the number of resources to around five, as there is room for supply chain complexity while still avoiding overwhelming the player with all kinds of items.

Determining how many workers to send to each store is a decision you will make frequently. In fact, managing the limited number of workers is key to keeping the city running; there will never be as much as you want or need. 

This complicates the task with the new day/night cycle; residents would only work during the relatively warm daytime shifts.

Of course, these workers are human beings who have needs, so the resources they collect will be used to survive. 

This is where the city-building aspects of Frostpunk come into play: buildings process goods and provide heat or shelter. Like resource gathering, this part of the gameplay is highly focused, thanks to the careful selection of buildings and the vibrant nature of the city. 

Most of the buildings and roads are placed in a circle around a central heat-generating generator, and it is this thematic twist providing structure that makes for an otherwise less than engaging city-building gameplay.
