5 Schools That Teach Game Design in Indonesia

Games industry has a lot of potential as a source of income. However, to be successful in this industry requires qualified human resources. Currently there are schools that teach game design in Indonesia.

One of the conditions for Indonesia to advance in the gaming world is that we can create good products that are globally competitive.

Indonesian developers have recently begun to show that they can create fewer new projects than foreign developers, and many are optimistic about the rapid development of the country's game industry.

List of Schools That Teach Indonesian Game Design

The schools on this list have an eSports program as additional education for their students, so it's not a compulsory subject, right? 

Students participating in this program will learn how to participate in eSports games in a professional manner. Then later can compete with other teams in the game. 

PSKD 1st High School 

The school that taught game design was the first PSKD 1st High School. The name SMA 1 PSKD must be familiar to import enthusiasts. This school is actually one of the few educational institutions in Indonesia that supports export studies.

Currently, the esports training program is only available at PSKD SMA 1 and SMP 1, but it is hoped that in the future it will also be available at PSKD SMA 4 and SMP 4.

This school first held an eSports program in the 2016/2017 academic year. According to the official website of SMA 1 PSKD, the eSports program aims to equip students with skills and knowledge.

This school offers eSports courses with three sports categories, namely DOTA 2, Overwatch and Counter Strike: Global Offensive.

Recently, SMA 1 PSKD has expanded its gaming branch into mobile games and card games. These games include Mobile Legends, Arena of Valor, PUBG Mobile and many more. 

Build the Nation 

Bina Bangsa is a school in Malang that has developed a special eSports program, including working at an internet cafe called Hardcore. Bina Bangsa School or BBS, this school opens eSport and Hardcore programs to train students in sports.

The eSports training includes seminars, sharing experiences, sponsoring competitions, and establishing startup companies for students. President Jokowi's request confirmed the existence of this program for eSports education in Indonesia. 

Garnes Vidaregaande Skule

Another stop is Garnes Vidaregaande Skule, a school in Norway. Red Bull mentioned that this school is one of the schools that integrates eSports activities into the curriculum.

Garnes Vidaregaande Skule started implementing this eSports program since August 2016. This program aims to increase student participation in the long term. Without getting mixed up, members, this school has prepared the best PC gaming at its time with the support of the most sophisticated PC devices.

Arlanda Gymnasiet School 

Finally, Arlanda Gymnasiet School, a school in Sweden that introduced the eSports program in 2015. This school teaches various eSports courses around eSports tactics and mastery.

The Arlanda Gymnasiet school program trains interested students to become professional athletes around the world. MCV said, one of the graduates of this school named Felix Andersson could become one of the Global Elite in CS.

Lanxiang Art School  

Lanxiang Technical College is a school that teaches the next game design that has an eSports program, this school is located in Jinan, China. This eSports scholarship program is offered to students with an academic and practical education.

This program is one of the compulsory subjects for students who choose eSports and Management majors. In 2018, Lanxiang Technical School had 50 students participating in eSports events.

Students who enter this major will pay high tuition fees. For one year, students will pay 1470 euros or around Rp. 23 million. Of course other courses cover eSports and management. Students will study various games such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Counter Strike and many more.
