After 5 years, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds or PUBG is finally ready to transition to a free-to-play model starting January 12, 2022. This means that many players who have wanted to play this game for a long time can now do so without spending any money.

South Korean developer Krafton announced the same at The Game 2021 awards, but there was a problem. This surprising move goes a long way towards competing in today's highly competitive F2P Battle royale market.

PUBG PC 2022 is considered by many in the gaming community as the game that sparked the global battle royal trend. This practically creates room for all the modern hits like Fortnite, Warzone, Apex Legends, etc.

Launched in 2017, the game has reached all peaks of popularity and is still hosting around half a million players daily, so it will be very interesting how this number grows in the coming months.

How Can PUBG PC 2022 Be Free?

It's hard to argue with the statement that Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, and Fortnite have now become synonymous with the battle royale genre.

These free-to-play games are a cornerstone of the modern era's multiplayer shooters, which offer a constantly changing meta and updating storefronts to keep their massive player base active and engaged.

From the outside looking in, it's easy to imagine that the decision to strip PUBG of the $ 30's price tag is a response to the success EA, Activision, and Epic Games have seen in this space, though PUBG Corp has been quick to dismiss it.

PUBG Corp sees the decision to go free with PUBG: Battlegrounds as more of an opportunity to “open it up to as many people as possible.”

The studio saw this as an opportunity to introduce a new feature set, make new commitments to the community, and grow the franchise further ahead of games set in the wider PUBG universe, such as The Callisto Protocol launching late 2021.

PUBG PC 2022 Version Free To Play

Krafton announced that PUBG PC 2022 will be divided into two tiers on January 12:

• The basic account is free to play
• Battleground plus account, costs $12.99

All existing players need not worry about the Free-to-play transition, as their accounts will be upgraded to Battleground plus at no additional cost.

Additionally, they will receive bonus rewards in the Special Anniversary Package, which includes a premium account and costume Skin Set (Battle-Enhanced Legacy Corset, Jacket, Gloves, Pants, and Boots), Shackle and Shanks Legacy – Pan, and Nameplate – Battle Strengthened Inheritance.

PUBG PC 2022 also announced a pre-registration event that allows you to get in-game prizes just by playing the game.

This event is primarily to introduce players to all the major changes that are coming to PUBG PC 2022. You simply register for the event by creating a Krafton ID or registering on the Krafton pre-registration website.

What Are The Advantages Of PUBG PC 2022 Plus Account?

According to IGN, the complete list of benefits of having PUBG PC 2022 Plus is:

• Bonus 1300 G-COINS
• Survival Masters XP + 100 percent increase
• Career – Medals tab
• Ranked mode
• Custom Match functionality
• In-Game items, including the Captain Camo set, which includes a hat, camo mask, and camo gloves

This means players with a PUBG Free to play account will not be able to access the ranked game mode.

PUBG is free-to-play on all platforms since January 12, 2022. The decision reflects how the world has shifted around the pioneering first-person shooter game that turned the battle royale from a Day mod into a global phenomenon.

It's been almost five years since PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds entered early access and there's been no shortage of rivals since then. Something has to change if PUBG is to remain competitive.

PUBG PC 2022 is now free to play on all platforms, in perhaps the most significant change since the battle royale entered Steam Early Access in March 2017.
