Portgas D Ace is one of the main protagonists in the anime and manga series One Piece. 

He holds the position of commander of the 2nd Division of the Whitebeard Pirates, and is also the brother of Monkey D. Luffy and Sabo. 

Ace was born on January 1 to a mother named Portgas D Rouge, who carried him for 20 months to protect him from the World Government. 

Portgas D Ace has the Mera Mera no Mi ability, which allows him to manipulate and create fire.

Ace died in the battle against the Marines at Marineford and his death was a big blow for Luffy.

Ace's Strengths and Abilities

Portgas D Ace was the user of the Mera Mera no Mi devil fruit before Sabo. This devil fruit allows him to manipulate and create fire. 

Mera Mera no Mi is a Logia type of devil fruit, which means the user can transform into their own devil fruit element. 

As we know, before the concept of Haki was introduced, this devil fruit made the user very difficult to attack.

Ace's Important Role

Even though Ace is now dead, he remains an important character in One Piece to this day. 

When they were little, Ace, Sabo and Luffy lived a life in the forest which made them stronger than other children their age.

Once Fought Against Yamato

Before fighting against Jinbei and Whitebeard, it turns out that Ace first fought Yamato at Wano. The story takes place 4 years before the Wano arc begins in the main story of One Piece. 

Previously, Ace and his group of pirates, namely Spade, were stranded on a beach which turned out to be the village of O-Tama.

Seeing what was happening in the village, Ace finally decided to invade Onigashima to face Kaido, but it turned out that Kaido was not there.

There Ace met Yamato, and finally they fought and after a long battle, they became close and became friends.

From this meeting, Yamato also learned about Luffy. Ace tells Yamato about Luffy, starting from Luffy's mysterious dream which is the same as Gol D. Roger's dream. 

Apart from that, before separating, Yamato made an Ace Vivre Card, which he then gave to Luffy in Alabasta.
