Nintendo Switch Successor: Rumors of Nintendo Switch 2, 2024 Release?

Recently there was news regarding the Nintendo Switch Successor which is rumored to be released in 2024.

If we flashback to the success of the Nintendo Switch, which is currently loved by the public and can be said to be the best-selling console after the PlayStation.

Indeed, until now Nintendo has not announced plans to release a new console since the release of the Nintendo Switch in 2017.

According to Gamerant, there is a related rumor Nintendo Switch Successor which will be released in 2024.

This has been leaked from a document resulting from a debate between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Microsoft.

As we know, Nintendo first debuted in 2017 and became quite a popular console, until now it will continue to update the system to be more capable of running modern Nintendo games.

Rumors regarding the Nintendo Switch Successor are in a document entitled "Defendants' Proposed Post-Trial Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law" from the results of the legal debate between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Microsoft.

Overall, the 153-page document discusses various facts, definitions and other details that encourage the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to block Microsoft from buying Activision Blizzard.

For a discussion of this, it is stated on page 92 that it is stated that "Nintendo is expected to release the Nintendo Switch Successor at the beginning of the year 2024 Later".

This sentence was a surprise because it provided information about a new type of Nintendo console that had previously only been heard from rumors circulating.

However, it should also be remembered that this rumor is not an official statement from Nintendo and until now there is no clarity regarding this Nintendo Switch.

Currently, many Nintendo fans are expecting better specifications from the Nintendo Switch, especially solving system problems when playing games.

Development Stage

It was mentioned at the beginning of this article that the Nintendo Switch 2 has not been officially announced and is still in the development stage.

Based on a report from the VGC site, it turns out that the Nintendo Switch 2 system is still in the development stage, although information is still sparse.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furunkawa said that he could not provide a detailed explanation regarding this matter.

Rumors Circulating

Reporting from Nintendolife, rumors about the Nintendo Switch model started with rumors about the "Nintendo Switch Mini" which is a handheld console that will be released as the Switch Lite.

In January 2019, there were predictions regarding the release of the Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo Switch Pro.

Apparently, this was denied by the President of Nintendo himself, Shuntaro Furukawa, who stated "There will not be a Nintendo Switch Successor released" at that time.

But in the same year, Nintendo replaced the original Switch console by upgrading the hardware using the Nvidia Tegra X1 chip on the Nintendo Switch Lite and Nintendo OLED.

Using this chip will provide power efficiency and longer battery life.

Throughout 2020 & 2021, there has been talk about the Nintendo Switch Pro and Nintendo Switch OLED offering more optimal performance improvements.

In September 2021, Bloomberg reported that several developers were developing 4K software for the Nintendo Switch using Nintendo's resources.

However, Nintendo denied this. Then, there were more rumors from a published patent that Nintendo was developing the Nintendo Switch Pro.

In September 2022, an Nvidia employee confirmed that the T239 system-on-a-chip was a precursor to the silicon that would be used for the Nintendo Switch 2.

In December 2022, Digital Foundry confirmed that a Nintendo Switch Pro had been available but this was canceled by Nintendo and instead focused on using the Switch model moving forward.

Then in May 2023, Sharp CEO Robert Wu has confirmed that a company will produce LCDs for Nintendo's latest consoles, especially for the Switch 2 and Project Q Sony PS5.

June 2023, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said that he would upgrade the game for the latest systems and features in the future and this was aimed at Nintendo.

July 2023, this console will use an LCD screen to be able to play in portable mode and can use cartridges.

Nintendo reportedly promoted Nintendo Switch 2 hardware at Gamescom to select game developers and game media.

In the end, this rumor was based on the case of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Microsoft discussing the Nintendo Switch 2.

And this is a clue that a Nintendo console will soon be released with a system comparable to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Nintendo Switch 2 Features

In the Reddit post, there are several rumors about camera functions that are better than before.

Apart from that, it is also stated that the Nintendo Switch 2 camera will be applied to Virtual Reality (VR).

The Nintendo Switch 2 also has Backwards Compatibility which has been previously tested on several games so that players do not need to upgrade to maintain their access.

Of course, the features and system will be better than the Nintendo Switch OLED for being able to play modern games.

Even though the Nintendo Switch 2 was released, apart from that there are already rumors regarding the price regarding the Nintendo Switch Pro, which costs $400, namely Rp. 6,142,820.

On the Nintendo Switch OLED which may be estimated at $450 or Rp. 6,910,672.

However, the Nintendo Switch 2 which uses an LCD screen will be released for less than $400, namely $399 or Rp. 6,127,462.

Nintendo Switch was launched in March 2017 and as time went by, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa discussed the Nintendo Switch Successor in 2022 with a new concept.
