True Mortal Kombat Champion 

From Mortal Kombat First up to Mortal Kombat 11, Liu Kang was always recognized as the official Mortal Kombat champion. 

He is often considered the main character in this game. However, in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, his life journey becomes very complicated because he experiences death. 

After that, he became an undead controlled by Raiden in Deception, became the revenant ruler of the Netherrealm, and even became the god of fire in Mortal Kombat 11!

Spin-off Games Special 

Liu Kang is one of four Mortal Kombat characters to get spin-off games which focuses on the story itself. 

In Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks, players can follow his adventures with Kung Lao. Games it has become a favorite of many Mortal Kombat fans.

His Love Story with Kitana 

The romance between Liu Kang and Kitana was first introduced in the first Mortal Kombat film adaptation. 

Later, this subplot was adapted into the games, starting from Mortal Kombat 4 onwards.

Unexpected Character Journeys 

As previously mentioned, Liu Kang's life became very complicated after the events of Deadly Alliance. 

He died, then became a zombie. Even in Mortal Kombat 9 and 10, his fate remains uncertain. 

In Mortal Kombat 9, he is killed by Raiden and later becomes a revenant. 

Finally, after a series of events from Deception to Mortal Kombat 9, he returns as the protagonist in Mortal Kombat 11, a decade after the events of Mortal Kombat 9!

Unique name

Before being named Liu Kang, this character was almost named Yoshitsune Minamoto, after the legendary Japanese figure. 

However, this name was ultimately not used because it did not suit his character.

Inspiration from Bruce Lee (Part Two) 

Liu Kang is a character fighting games the second is inspired by Bruce Lee. The first character is Kim Dragon from games ADK, World Heroes.

Absent in Deadly Alliance

Being the only non-playable Mortal Kombat main character in Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance due to the character's death in the game's story.

Design Inspiration from Shang-Chi 

Daniel Pesina, a stuntman who performed Kang in Mortal Kombat, revealed that Liu Kang's design in the MK II version and beyond was inspired by the Marvel character, Shang-Chi. 

If you look at the Marvel version of Shang-Chi, you will see a similarity to Liu Kang's trademark red headband.

Appears First Time Without Headband 

When he first appeared in Mortal Kombat, Kang was not wearing a headband. 

Then, the iconic red headband became the accessory that adorned this character's head.

Similar Power to Onaga 

In Mortal Kombat 11, a character named Cetrion reveals that Kang has fire powers similar to Onaga, the main antagonist in Mortal Kombat: Deception.
