With so many installations, order God of War (GOW) sometimes not much is known. Indeed, at first, various lineups that were released used the numbering order as a marker.

God of War: Ascension (2013)
Even though this game is the 7th installation as well as the last game released for the PS3 console. But according to the order of the story, it becomes the earliest.
This game is set before the first God of War (2005) and features Kratos trying to free himself from the god's curse and finally breaking his oath.
God of War: Chains of Olympus (2008)
Released in 2008 for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) console, Chains of Olympus became the 4th installation. The story setting is between Ascencion (2013) and God of War (2005).
This game features the adventures of Kratos who has been freed and his struggles as a servant of the Greek gods to smooth out his efforts to avenge the death of his family.
God of War (2005)
It is the 1st God of War game released for consoles PS2. This game features the journey of Kratos who is tired of being a servant of Olympus and demands his revenge as a reward for his service.
It was also here that he managed to avenge Ares, and became the new God of War.
God of War: Ghost of Sparta (2010)
As a PSP game console, this game is the 6th installation. The plot that is carried in this game tells about Kratos' life after replacing Ares.
Here he tries to find out his past when he was still a mortal human. Along with the events that occurred, Kratos returned to grudge against the gods of Olympus.

God of War: Betrayal (2007)
This installation is the first God of War released for the Java-based mobile platform and is the 3rd installation. Despite its small size, this game has received quite a good reception and offers an inseparable story plot.
It is narrated that with the enmity between Kratos and Olympus, his adventures in this game are the consequences that must be borne by the protagonist in igniting the wrath of the gods.
God of War II (2007)
This legendary game is the 2nd installation for the PS2 console. Continuing the setting from the previous story, Kratos, who still likes to cause trouble in order to gain the wrath of the gods of Olympus, finally gets the open war he wants.
It was Zeus himself who finally intervened by outsmarting the God of War. As the game progresses, Kratos, assisted by the Titans, vows to end the glory of Olympus and Zeus forever.
God of War III (2010)
GOW III was the first to be released for the PS3 console, and will be the 5th installation. When continuing his efforts to destroy the dominance of Olympus, Kratos instead received betrayal from the Titans.
But with Pandora's help, he finally managed to defeat Zeus, who turned out to be his own father. This installation is the ending of the story of the God of War in Greek mythology.
God of War (2018)
This sequel is the first to release for the PS4 console as the 8th install. As the name implies, without any "frills", the developer seems to want to strengthen the concept of "reset" for the protagonist.
The game is set approximately 150 years apart from the previous events, and features Kratos and a boy named Atreus in the meta of Nordic mythology.
God of War: Ragnarok (2022)
This is the 9th installation of God of War and the first cross-platform release for PS4 and PS5 consoles.
After 3 years from the previous adventure, Kratos and Atreus with Freya fought Thor and Odin as the main characters in this mythology.
