The story centers on Rin Okumura, who along with his younger twin brother, Yukio Okumura, was raised by Father Shiro Fujimoto, an Exorcist. One day, Rin finds out that he and Yukio are the sons of Satan. Seeing Shiro die to protect him, Rin draws his demon-slaying sword, Kurikara (倶利伽羅), which restrains his demonic powers.

From then on, Rin not only gains demonic features such as fangs and a tail, but also the power to burn in blue flames that destroy almost anything it touches. Rin wants to become an Exorcist like her guardian to become stronger and defeat Satan.

He enrolls in the prestigious True Cross Academy, an exorcist school, which is actually the Japanese branch of the True Cross Order, an international organization that aims to protect Assiah (the human world) from Gehenna (the demon world).

With great surprise, Rin discovers that Yukio is already an experienced Exorcist and one of his teachers. Thus begins Rin's journey to become an Exorcist, accompanied by his brother and classmates who quickly become his close friends.

Rin Okumura (奥村 燐 Okumura Rin) is the main protagonist in the Blue Exorcist series. He is the son of Satan and the eldest twin brother of Yukio Okumura. Following studies as an Exwire at True Cross Academy, Rin dreams of becoming a Knight Meister and defeating his biological father.

Rin has a very loving personality, as well as a kind heart. He supports his friends and tries to encourage and help them in any way. Rin is also very protective of Yukio and aims to surpass him one day.

However, Yukio often feels irritated by Rin because of his impulsiveness and stupidity. His relaxed attitude makes Yukio underestimate Rin and admire him, making it difficult for Rin to be taken seriously by Yukio and his fellow exorcists.

This makes Rin try hard to get recognition from his brother. He felt offended when Yukio accused him of killing their father and pointed a gun at him, RIN, who became furious, immediately warned him not to insult him and said that he would not fight his brother.

Rin also has an emotional disposition when Yukio begins to show signs of insanity and Rin cannot find a way to help him. This gets worse when he learns of the circumstances of his birth and secretly believes that he should never have been born.

Although he generally hides it, Rin loves his adoptive father very much and has only kind words for him.

He deeply regrets that the last thing they did was fight, which ended with Satan taking over his body. Like Yukio, he takes every insult towards him seriously and is furious when Shura claims that he died like a coward.

He also doesn't like people who insult Yukio, who he loves and respects. However, apart from that, Rin displays a surprisingly calm and relaxed nature and rarely gets angry without good reason.

Rin is often shown to be able to relate to people easily and relate their feelings to her own, such as Shiemi Moriyama's grief over her grandmother's death and Ryūji Suguro's ambition to defeat Satan.

He can also understand Shiemi's desperate desire to have friends, as she grew up without friends due to being bullied by bullies, children, and rude adults.

In general, he is often the first to try to make people feel better if they are sad. Even though he wasn't the type of person who liked school or studying, he managed to get a junior high school diploma and become an Exwire.
