Technology, which continues to develop to date, has produced new breakthroughs in electronic products, especially electronic hardware products on computers or laptops. One of the hardware, which is known as the brain of computer or laptop processing, is the CPU (Central Processing Unit) or better known as the Processor. The leading brands in terms of hardware are Intel and AMD.

Both compete with each other in making processors of various types. The competition between Intel and AMD is so fierce that they are quite aggressive in making technological breakthroughs in the new processors they make.

This article will help you to know about Intel and amd as the largest manufacturer and supplier of processors for computers or laptops.

Since the founding of Intel in 1968, Intel now has various variants and types of sophisticated processors intended for various computers and their functions. Starting from developing power efficient processors, then special processors with high-end specifications, and processors that have multi-core 64-bit.

Intel has 8 types of processors, namely the Intel Atom which is specialized by Intel as a processor that has low power consumption and is used in Smartphones, Ultra Mobile PCs, MID, and Netbooks.

The next type of Intel processor is the Intel Celeron, which is a processor with a single core or just one core in it. Intel Celeron is a low-end processor that is suitable for use on computers or laptops for browsing and website needs only.

The next Intel processor is the Intel Pentium which is an iconic processor from Intel which was popular at the beginning of the 20th century. The Intel Pentium processor has 4 versions up to the Pentium IV and then continued with the Pentium Dual Core and the last one is the Pentium Extreme.

And now the known types of Intel processors are Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, Intel Core i9 which are differentiated by the speed and number of cores on the processor starting from 3, 5, 7 and 9 cores.

The Intel Xeon Processor type is intended for long-term use on servers and workstations.

Starting its work as a processor manufacturer, AMD made processors for industrial machines, but this did not run smoothly. Until finally in 1996, AMD, which had switched to the micro processor market, succeeded in making the K6 processor, which was its first 32-bit processor.

In 2003, AMD began its heyday with the Athlon 64 processor which had high performance at that time and could compete with the Intel Pentium processor. The competition with Intel was so fierce that it pushed AMD to produce processors with new technology than before.

And in 2007 AMD launched the AMD Phenom processor which was the first quad-core processor (four cores). This processor is quite famous among PC gamers because it has good performance for gaming.

Furthermore, in 2011 AMD had Fusion and AMD A-Series processors which relied on combined technology between CPU and GPU into one chip.

Not wanting to be outdone by Intel, which has high-end processors such as the Core i-series, AMD released its top-class processors in 2017, namely the AMD Ryzen Series with the new Zen architecture.

Until now, in 2024 the AMD Ryzen Series will have 7 generations with their highest series being the 7000 series with superior AMD 3D V-Cacher technology which places a stack of additional memory above the processor so that performance is increased by 14% compared to the previous generation.

In the competition between the two processor manufacturers, Intel and AMD have unique personal branding. One of them is branding in terms of color. Intel has identical branding in blue, while AMD has identical branding in red.

Because these two colors are so identical and attached to their respective brands, many enthusiasts or fans use them as a discussion for comparisons, jokes, and even memes like the blue camp and the red camp.

This also reinforces the fact that there is intense competition between Intel and AMD and at the same time makes them both the largest processor manufacturers and suppliers currently in the world.

Intel advantages

Here are some of the advantages possessed by Intel processors as a whole:

  • Intel processors support more productivity, not only gaming, but are also suitable for work, video editing and rendering.
  • The durability of Intel processors is still considered higher than AMD processors.
  • The popularity of Intel processors is higher than AMD, because Intel is more common and often used in various circles.
  • The temperature of Intel processors is cooler compared to AMD processors.
  • The compatibility of Intel processors with supporting hardware such as motherboards, graphics cards and storage is very high

AMD advantages

Here are some of the advantages that AMD processors have overall:

  • Tends to have a cheap price compared to Intel.
  • The gaming performance on the Ryzen 7000 series is still the best to date.
  • It supports older motherboard sockets more than Intel, whose newest series of processors usually don't support older motherboard sockets.
  • For energy efficiency, it is still superior to AMD processors, even the highest processor, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, still has a TDP of 120W
  • Integrated Graphics or a combination of GPU and CPU in one AMD chip is still the strongest at the moment which can produce high frame rates in right-aligned games.
