Spyke Splatoon Profile and Location
Spyke or known as Downy in the Japanese version is a humanoid who has the head shape of a sea urchin. He is a gear item shopkeeper for Splatoon players.
You can find this character sitting in the alley behind Inkopolis Plaza. In the Splatoon 2 series, Spyke is at the Inkopolis Cafe next to Deca Tower.
Having moved locations, this character was finally moved back to Inkopolis Plaza in the first wave of Splatoon 3: Expansion Pass.
Spyke has a very tall body shape when compared to the Inklings and Octolings. This character has dark orange and purple skin and spiky hair with bright purple at each end.
Even though he is taller than Inkling and Octoling, not many people know about this because Spike is always sitting when you meet him.
The design of Spyke itself was changed several times by Nintendo in each Splatoon game. Here are the differences:
- Splatoon: Wearing colorful ponchos with various patterns, colorful bracelets, and clogs. Spyke sat on a carpet similar to his poncho.
- Splatoon 2: The poncho worn by Spyke is black and white and he wears black and silver rings on both hands. His eyes look more reflective and can glow in the dark.
- Splatoon 3: Spyke has a spike on his chin that resembles a beard. He wore round glasses and a poncho with a combination of black and orange that showed off his polo shirt.

Services Provided By Spyke Splatoon
Just as the design often undergoes many changes from one version to another, the services provided by Spyke in the game also have several differences.
Splatoon
When you visit it after reaching level 4, you can buy gear from other players' Inklings. You can buy up to 3 gear at one time, but you can only buy one every day.
You have to wait up to one day before Spyke can provide the gear you want. If you order more than 3 gears, the remaining orders will be canceled to make room and new items will appear at the back of the queue.
The prices Spyke offers for its gear are slightly higher than those in stores. If you don't buy the gear on the day they are available, Spyke will throw it away except on days when you don't play games.
When you reach level 20, you can ask Spyke to add an equipment slot by exchanging 30,000 coins or one Super Sea Snail. The higher the ability of an item, the more expensive the price will be.
During Turf War and Ranked Battle, you can see Spyke outside the match. You can't buy anything from him during matches going on.
Splatoon 2
In Splaton 2, Spyke's role in this game is taken by another character named Murch. You can still meet Spyke at Inkopolis Cafe but cannot interact with him.
Spyke has the appearance of a rich businessman in a silver and white poncho that looks expensive. He was also seen enjoying coffee while looking at his laptop.
During Splatfest, you can see him enjoying music from Off the Hook at Inkopolis Square while nodding his head to the beat.
Splatoon 3
In the final series Splatoon 3 which will be released on September 9 2022, Spyke returns to his role as a gear shop keeper at Inkopolis Plaza with the same service options as Murch.
