Weber said that this decision was taken because the development team wanted to focus on improving the game's single-player mode. Cyberpunk 2077 itself was released in 2020 and experienced many problems, including bugs and glitches.

As quoted from the IGN page, "We have a lot of things we want to do, but we have to focus on what's important,” Weber said. “We want to provide the best single-player experience.“

CD Projekt Red President, Adam Kicinski, also emphasized that his team wants to provide a single-player game that is full of narrative and takes the form of a role playing game.

“We believe that single-player mode is the main strength of Cyberpunk 2077,” Kicinski said. “We want to make sure that we provide the best experience for our single-player players.”

Even though the multiplayer mode was cancelled, CD Projekt Red still hasn't ruled out releasing it in the future. However, for now, their focus is on improving the single-player mode.
