The discussion of VCGamers starts from the form of Sony's latest console. In terms of form, this Pro variant adopts a form that is more or less similar to the 'vanilla' version.
The only marker that looks quite contrasting is the presence of 'sweet accessories' in the form of three horizontal lines (also known as "ridged lines") in black that run across the smooth white body of the console.
At first glance, this looks like an exhaust vent. This design itself was leaked a few weeks ago, just like in the discussion Eurogamer.
Meanwhile, in terms of size, the Pro variant has a similar height to PS5 'vanilla', with width and thickness dimensions similar to the variant PS5 Slim.
This size overview is quite relevant, considering that Sony also did not include a Disc-Drive for the PS5 Pro (digital edition only). However, this Disc Drive can be purchased separately by Vicigers for USD 80.
Specifications and Engine
Next is the performance aspect of the new console. In terms of specs, Sony itself has not released official details about what they include as the 'innards' of this latest variant.
But to get a more complete picture, we can see the existence of components from previous versions. Yes, many believe that Sony will not change much.
This is because the 'Pro' variants generally only provide a refresh and extend the quality of life (QOL) of their current gen console line-up, before finally releasing the next gen edition.
Starting from the CPU and GPU aspects. Reported from ign, they stated that the 'vanilla' variant of the PS5 itself uses an AMD processor called Zen 2, which is supported by RDNA 2 for its GPU line.
They believe that the Pro variant will retain this architecture, but with a larger GPU capacity: seen from the addition of streaming multiprocessors (SM) of up to 3,800.
This number is much larger than the non-Pro variant which only covers 2,300 SM. In addition, Sony also added the presence of the latest generation of ray tracing hardware which is also made by AMD.
And by including the presence of AI-Driver in the software line, the upscaling provided is able to support high frame rate game performance even when playing with 8K graphic quality!
So on paper, Sony claims that its PS5 Pro variant has an increase of 67% in compute units, 25% in additional memory speed, and rendering performance of up to 45%!
Price and Release Date
Now for the price and release date. For now, Sony has only planned to release the PS5 Pro for 4 main regions of the global PlayStation market: Europe, the United Kingdom (UK), North America, and Japan only.
Each region also has a different price tag. Compared to the Rupiah exchange rate (IDR), here is the price order of each region from the cheapest to the most expensive:
- North America: USD 700 (IDR 10.8 million)
- Japan: JPY 119,980 (IDR 13 million)
- Europe: EUR 800 (IDR 13.6 million)
- UK: GBP 700 (IDR 14.1 million)
The above prices in Rupiah are estimates based on the exchange rate when this article was written, and do not include any additional duties. It is likely that the price could be much more expensive when it enters the country.
