Dark Past
He does not know who his biological parents are and was raised in the House of the Hearth by a caretaker called "Mother," who was actually the first Fatui Harbinger, Crucabena.
Crucabena educates children there to become assassins, killing each other to become “Kings,” which she considers just an experiment.
For this reason, Peruere, real name Arlecchino, killed Crucabena. Afterwards, Peruere was imprisoned in Snezhnaya, but was pardoned by the Tsaritsa and appointed the new “The Knave”. Since then, Peruere changed his name.
Clervie: Arlecchino's Childhood Friend
When Arlecchino was a child in an orphanage, he had a good friend named Clervie, Crucabena's biological daughter.
Clervie was taken to the House of the Hearth so she could see that all the children there were loved as much as she was. However, Clervie knew her mother wasn't that kind, and only Arlecchino (or Peruere) had similar thoughts.
The two became good friends, although Clervie was ultimately defeated by Peruere in a fight arranged by Crucabena.
Peruere did this to free Clervie according to his wishes and so he could carry out his plan to finish off Crucabena.
Why is Arlecchino called "Father"?
Arlecchino is called “Dad” by the children in the House of the Hearth because he doesn't want to be like “Mother” before him.
Although Mother previously seemed perfect with a friendly and gentle attitude, it turns out she was very cruel, making the children kill each other.
As a father, Arlecchino chooses to appear cold and difficult to approach, but actually really cares and loves the children in the orphanage.
